I can’t think of a better intro to Godspeed You! Black Emperor than 28 Days Later…. ^This HD YouTube clip^ is a pretty good (fan-made?) montage from the film, although it necessarily incorporates many more scenes than the very moving sequence early in the film, in which East Hastings is actually excerpted to such stunning effect.

Great fucking song, and an underrated movie. Move fast to catch the HD link above. For any number of reasons, I can’t imagine it will stay up for long.

The world might be losing their collective shit about Slumdog Millionaire these days, but 28 Days Later is what I think of when the name “Danny Boyle” comes up. (It is highly criminal that I don’t own the DVD. I should fix that.) And, even though I didn’t realize it at the time, it was my introduction to Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

No, it would be some time later, shortly after I started dating the woman who would become my wife. We were at a friend’s house and he blew my mind with “Moya”, the first track from Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada.

I can’t think of any scene in the film that encapsulates the terrible grandeur, the skylines-on-fire bombast of GY!BE better than scene about the ride in to Birmingham. Skylines on fire, indeed.
